Benefits of Retin-A

After working with a number of different dermatologists I have learned that Retin-A is the number one thing to keep your skin looking and feeling young. There are sooo many benefits in one little tube! I have tried a number of different creams and prescription medications for my monthly breakouts but retinols have significantly improved the appearance of my skin. Here are five reasons you should talk to your derm about this miracle cream.

1. It REALLY plumps up your skin.

I’m sure many of you aren’t into injections (yet) but retinoids are actually proven to plump and firm skin. Retinoids works by increasing your skin’s storage of hyaluronic acid and collagen, which are the basic building blocks of your skin.

 2. It prevents premature skin sagging.

While retinoids are boosting your collagen and hyaluronic acid production, they are also slowing down the rate at which you lose them with age; meaning, they are warding off the wrinkles that have not yet shown up. This is why it is essential to get on Retin- A before your skin is visibly in trouble.

 3. It makes your skin glow and evens texture.

Retin-A exfoliates the dead dull skin on the surface and does a far better job than any chemical peel or drug store facial scrub. It takes a while to see results (anywhere from 3-5 weeks if you are consistent with application.) Once your skin gets used to the cream, you will have smoother and more radiant skin. If you are dealing with problematic skin such as sun damage, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentaion (the stubborn little marks after you pop a pimple), retinoids speed up the process to get your even skin tone back.

 4. It helps control clogged pores, acne, and oil production.

There is nothing more traumatizing than a shitty skin week. I have tried and experimented with various treatments over the years (both dietary and topical) My skin has been under control aside from the annoying breakouts that arrive monthly like clockwork. But crazy enough, I’ve had fewer breakouts while diligently using Retin-A. The reason behind it is because Retin–A acts as a powerful exfoliator; retinoids get rid of dead skin cells that block pores and lead to acne. Plus, they have an incredible benefit; they decrease oil production. No more grease ball face!

 5. It’s cheap!

Depending on where you live a tube of Retin-A can run you anywhere from $30-$50. That is not bad considering all the proven benefits. With that being said, just because you want to use Retin-A, doesn’t mean you have to toss all your other products. Trust me, I am the biggest product whore and use Retin-A, with other serums, moisturizers, masks, exfoliators, and face oils. So there!
