Working in the skin care industry, I used to obsess over the newest creams, lotions and skin treatments. Don’t get me wrong, these things are a nice indulgence, and a lot of them can benefit your skin. But as I get older (and a little wiser) I believe the best way to keep your skin looking great is to consistently keep a healthy diet. There are so many foods that are great for your skin, body, and overall health. Check out some of my favorite foods that will give you gorgeous and glowing skin.
Avocados: Can act as a face wash & mask, reduce wrinkles & produce soft skin.
If you like to read beauty ingredients on your products like I do, you may notice that avocado oil is used in many of them; that’s because avocados are a natural conditioner. Avocados are packed with vitamin A, which acts as an excellent remover of dead skin cells. They also contain an amino acid called glutamine that completely cleans your skin and protects it from harsh environmental damage. Avocados also have a ton of antioxidants. Antioxidants assist in eradicating toxins that cause early pigmentation and wrinkling of your skin. An avocado mask is a great way to soften skin. You simply smush and mush avocados and apply them to your face. They help clean and restore lost nutrients and stimulate the growth of new skin cells.
Tomatoes: Help eliminate acne, shrink pores, & reduce oil production.
Tomatoes contain a ton of benefits that help your skin. Tomatoes are a miracle worker when it comes to clearing acne. A lot of acne clearing products contain vitamin A and vitamin C; this is because these two Vitamins are key when it comes to treating and getting rid of blemishes. Tomatoes are rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin K. They contain a chemical known as lycopene that is vital to eliminating annoying acne. Simply eating tomatoes will do wonders for your skin. Tomatoes also have the ability to shrink pores. Dip a cotton ball in the juice of a cut tomato and massage into your face in a circular motions. For immediate results, try to do this routine everyday. They also a natural astringent and get rid of oily skin.
Green Tea: Acts as sunscreen & keeps skin looking young.
Green tea has a ridiculous amount of benefits and it’s amazing for your overall health. I try to drink at least 3 cups a day. It fights cancer, speeds up your metabolism, and stimulates digestion. Green tea also helps reduce stress. On top of these great health benefits, green tea also has the ability to protect your skin from sun rays. When you drink green tea regularly, it acts as a natural shield to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Green tea also happens to be the secret to youthful skin. It is rich in antioxidants and acts as an anti-aging remedy to fight off harmful free radicals and reduce wrinkles.
Berries: Help balance and normalize oil levels in your skin.
Berries are high in fiber and low in sugar, and they make a great snack. They are filled with vitamin C that is essential for healthy, glowing skin. Another benefit berries produce is much needed collagen. Collagen keeps skin looking soft, smooth, and full. Blueberries alone are loaded with antioxidants that help prevent skin sagging and premature aging. You can make a blueberry eye mask using a handful of blueberries along with 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel. Mash them up in a bowl and put in the fridge for 30 minutes. When your mixture is ready, dab it under your eyes and leave it on for 20 minutes, then wash off with warm water. Your eyes will look brighter and feel refreshed.
Almonds and Hemp Seeds: They nourish and protect skin from the sun.
Almonds and Hemp seeds contain vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids that have an important role in maintaining healthy skin. Almonds are low in calories and packed with nutrients. They contain surprising levels of vitamin E, which replenishes your skin and remove visible signs of aging. Hemp seeds are rich in omega-3’s, omega-6 fatty acids, as well as vitamin E. Sprinkle almonds or hemp seeds on your cereal, oatmeal, or salad. Easy and effective!
Water: Helps everything.
I know you’ve heard this one before but it’s always worth mentioning. You NEED to drink plenty of water! Drinking water moisturizes the skin from the inside out. Keeping yourself hydrated means keeping your skin moisturized. Water flushes everything from your body, so you are keeping your skin and overall body healthy.
